VITA Animal Rights Center, Russia
Voices for the voiceless
Never have animals suffered more than they
do today: fur production, intensive farming, shooting the strays
- these are just some examples of the everyday animal abuse by humanity.
VITA Animal Rights Center (vita- Latin for "life") is a non-profit animal protection organisation
aiming at the prevention of cruelty towards animals. We peaceably
campaign against many forms of maltreatment of animals, including:
- INTENSIVE FARMING. VITA campaigns
for better conditions for farm animals and promotes vegan/vegetarian
lifestyle. VITA is a member of the WSPA - World Society for the
Protection of Animals. From 2005 VITA is a member of the International
Vegetarian Union - IVU. From 2008 VITA is a member of the European
Vegetarian Union - EVU. From 2009 - RSPCA - Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
- FUR PRODUCTION. VITA campaigns against
the production and wearing of fur and promotes warm alternative
clothing. From 2003 VITA is a member of the Fur Free Alliance - FFA.
- TESTS ON ANIMALS.
VITA strives for the use of alternatives to the atrocious
and often useless tests on animals in medicine, research, the production
of cosmetics, etc. Together with our colleagues from CETA and InterNICHE,
we are introducing the subject of bioethics in the educational system
of Russia, Ukraine and Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).
VITA is a partner of the InterNICHE.
From 2012 VITA is a partner of the Cruelty
Free International (CFI). From 2013 VITA is a partner of the
Be Cruelty-Free.
- ATROCIOUS ENTERTAINMENTS. Several
attempts have been made to organize bullfights in Russia. VITA has
taken an active part in the successful international campaign against
these plans. We also carry action for better life conditions for
the animals in the zoos and circuses, and their further abolition. From June 2009 VITA is a member of the BornFree - Born Free Foundation.
- THE STRAY PROBLEM. Millions of cats
and dogs are still begging for food in the streets of Russian cities
and towns. The local authorities often choose to shoot the strays,
instead of resorting to sterilization projects, which prove to be
cheaper and more effective. VITA supports and promotes stray sterilization
programmes and provides assistance to individual animals in need.
VITA shelters rescued stray cats in its no-kill mini-sanctuary.
To reach our objectives VITA only carries peaceable actions:
Together with various Moscow organisations VITA works on the government
level to introduce the animal welfare laws in Russia.
We campaign against cruelties to animals by lobbying the responsible
organisations, carrying peaceful actions and spreading publications.
VITA makes and takes part in the numerous television and radio programmes,
writes articles, organizes special events and gives lectures on
the animal protection issues.
VITA would appreciate any help to stop the cruelty towards animals
Every gift, how moderate it may be, helps us alleviate the suffering
and abuse of animals
Please don't send cheques - foreign cheques are next to impossible
to cash in Russia, but any other donation means is welcome.
