The preconditions for organizing an event of such scale had been ripened for a long time. Year after year public attitudes against furs had been grown, which led to the formation of a powerful movement in defense for animals. In 2008 five Russian celebrities - Laima Vaikule, Alena Sviridova, Artemy Troitsky, Victor Gusev and Alexandr F. Sklyar – made a flight to the ice of the White Sea for harp seal pups protection (VITA animal rights center campaign “Zone free from killing”) which led to total mammal hunting ban and also the campaign was recognized by the Ministry of nature as “The best ecological project of the year”. In 2012 for the first time in Moscow and Saint-Petersburg and then in other cities appeared social ad against furs with the participation of Olga Shelest, Laima Vaikule, Elka singer, Artemy Troitsky and Grigory Gladkov. In 2013-2014 the Moscow Government approved placement of thousands posters against fur in different formats on the streets and in public transport (metro). Since 2013 in Russian cities every year has been held marches against furs (later the action “Animals are not to wear!”), which consolidated 60 cities of the country, including such northern cities like Nadym, Nizhny Tagil, Surgut, Syktyvkar, Noyabrsk and others.
The sponsors of the event are: LUSH ethic Cosmetics Company, ethic clothes brand “DaMiNe“, 3M, “Mexovica”.
