Подводим итоги
Наука все больше проявляет удивительные связи между раком и питанием. В ходе исследований ученые помогают людям переменить свое питание, а потом оценивают, как питательные вещества входят в кровоток и укрепляют противораковую защиту. Другие ученые исследуют под микроскопом иммунные клетки, борющиеся с раком, и смотрят, как разные вещества помогают им или мешают. Почти каждый день мы узнаем больше о том, как побеждать свободные радикалы, которые могут вызвать рак, как отрегулировать работу гормонов, которые способны повлиять на риск рака, и как укрепить сопротивляемость организма.
Мы уже знаем больше, чем достаточно, чтобы начать. Поначалу основные принципы кажутся простыми – сократить количество жира, увеличить количество клетчатки, привнести антиоксидантные витамины, соблюдать осторожность с алкоголем. Но мы использовали эти и другие принципы та, что они оказываются гораздо эффективнее, чем можно было бы предположить. Подход, основанный на изменении питания, имеет еще одно жизненно важное преимущество. В отличие от луча, который влияет только на орган, куда он направлен, или операции, помогающей лишь одному пациенту однократно, смена диеты принесет благо всей семье. По мере того, как члены семьи станут получать удовольствие от совместных приемов пищи, все они станут здоровее – независимо от того, осознают это или нет.
